HIPS film (High Impact Polystyrene) is a material used in thermoforming processing. It is commonly used to produce disposable tableware, lids, containers, trays, and other products for the food and household sectors. The film is manufactured by extrusion, which ensures uniform thickness, stable characteristics, and convenience in further application.

Optipak has been producing PS, PP, and PET films for many years. Thanks to well-established logistics and experienced staff, products can be quickly ordered and delivered on time.

Advantages of HIPS Film

Products are manufactured strictly according to technology standards and offer the following benefits:

  • high impact resistance and durability against mechanical loads;
  • stable performance properties at different temperatures;
  • availability in natural, white, or custom-colored options;
  • optimal price-to-quality ratio;
  • modern extrusion technology ensures material uniformity.

Another advantage is the low cost of the film, which makes it highly demanded.

Technical Specifications

  • thickness: up to 1 mm;
  • strip width: up to 780 mm;
  • color: natural, white, or custom-made.

Optipak Film Production

Optipak manufactures thermoforming film from various raw materials:

  • HIPS — high-impact polystyrene;
  • PP — polypropylene;
  • PET — polyethylene terephthalate.

We use modern equipment and extrusion technology, which guarantees:

  • consistent product quality;
  • fast deliveries thanks to in-house logistics;
  • direct wholesale prices from the manufacturer;
  • individual approach and flexible terms for regular customers.

  • What are the main advantages of polystyrene tape over PET or PP?

    Polystyrene tape (PS) boasts excellent thermoformability at lower temperatures, reducing energy costs in production. It is highly rigid, lightweight, and ideal for deep drawing, maintaining the shape stability of products such as yogurt cups or candy trays.

  • Is PS tape suitable for packaging dairy products?

    Yes, it's the primary material for sealed dairy containers (sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese). Polystyrene is chemically inert to lactic acids and fats, doesn't alter the product's flavor, and provides perfect adhesion to aluminum foil during heat sealing, guaranteeing a hermetic seal.

  • Can polystyrene tape products be used in the microwave?

    Polystyrene (marked "6") is primarily intended for cold and moderately hot foods (up to 70°C). We do not recommend using standard PS packaging for microwave heating, as the material may deform at high temperatures. For hot foods, consider our polypropylene strapping.

  • How clear can polystyrene tape be?

    We produce both opaque (white, colored) and transparent polystyrene tape. Although PS is slightly inferior to PET in terms of crystal clarity, it provides excellent product visibility on the shelf and has a characteristic "glassy" sheen, making it popular for lids and confectionery trays.

  • How does the tape behave when cutting and punching on machines?

    Polystyrene is a relatively brittle yet pliable material that ensures a clean cut during die cutting without burrs or nicks. This extends the life of knives on molding lines and produces products with perfectly smooth edges.
